Steps
Cream shortening and 1 cup sugar. Beat in the egg, molasses, mil and vanilla.
Combine dry ingredients and gradually add to creamed mixture.
Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.
Roll into 1 ¼ inch balls, then roll into remaining sugar. Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheet.
Bake at 350°F for 10-14 minutes or until tops crack and edges are slightly firm.
Remove to wire rack to cool.

0.75 c shortening
1.25 c sugar, divided
1 egg
0.25 c molasses
2 T milk
1 t vanilla
2.5 cup flour
1.5 t baking soda
1 t cinnamon
0.75 t salt
0.75 t nutmeg
